Staying well hydrated is vital for every tissue, cell and organ in your body. Each day, you lose water by simply breathing, going to the bathroom and sweating. Replacing these lost fluids is vital to preventing dehydration. How much water should you drink?
The formula used to be a one size fits all, eight 8oz glasses of water a day. But that recommendation has changed. How much should you drink to keep your metabolism efficient and your digestive system functioning? It depends on your size and weight, and also on your level of activity and where you live. In general, you should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, everyday. If you weigh 150lbs, that would be 75 to 150 ounces of water a day. If you live in a hot climate and exercise a lot, you'd be higher on the range; if you live somewhere cooler and are more sedentary, you would need less.
